How Boise is Ringing in 2025
In 2012, an Idaho resident was watching the New Year's Eve ball drop in New York City and got an idea.
Dylan Cline told the Art & Music Guide that little was happening in Boise that night until he started the Idaho Potato Drop. Initially, the tater was made of foam, over a metal frame. Within a few years, it was a stronger model made out of fiberglass. There are now LED lights, too.
While sometimes wings have been added, that won't be the case this time around. But Dylan says it will ''still fly,'' and thinks this year's event could be the best yet, with a bigger fireworks display than ever before.
Dylan is also pleased that the entertainers will include Blues Traveler's Ben Wilson and North Mississippi Allstars' Cody Dickinson. And for the first time, attendees can get customized screenprints.
Other options include the VIP room, where folks can dance, enjoy an open bar, or take part in a raffle where prizes include a one-night stay in the Idaho Potato Hotel.
Meanwhile over at the Urban Rail Jam, skiers and snowboarders can compete for cash and prizes.
For two years running, the Idaho Potato Drop has made USA Today's list of ten best New Year's Eve drops. What's more, this benefits local arts, businesses, and charities.
Thank you Cheryl!
