Warhol And Friends
Steve Schapiro started working with Andy Warhol in 1965 when he was with Life magazine. Strangely enough, the photojournalist's story wasn't used. But now many of the images will soon be seen for the first time--part of a new book called Steve Schapiro. Andy Warhol And Friends.
Steve spent a lot of time with Andy in the sixties, visiting the Factory and attending art openings. So he also took pictures of Warhol superstars Edie Sedgwick and Nico.
In fact, the photographer was at the opening of Andy's first museum retrospective in Philadelphia . . . when the artist and Edie had to run upstairs to escape an excited crowd.
In addition, Steve spent time in Los Angeles, where Andy had an exhibit of his Silver Clouds, and watched a performance by the Velvet Underground.
Schapiro passed away in 2022, but was able to see the completion of this book.
The publisher is Taschen, and it's due on the 21st of December.
