Museum on Wheels

If folks want to check out art, they generally have to visit a gallery or museum.

However, in Brooklyn, New York, a mobile museum has been visiting neighborhoods ranging from Brooklyn Heights to Coney Island. The idea came about last year, when the Brooklyn Museum announced its 200th anniversary.

Local artist Christopher Myers contributed to the interior and exterior. His colorful creations pay homage to the borough and its diversity.

Each stop includes activities such as art-making, storytelling, tactile exploration of objects from the museum's teaching collection, and games like hopscotch and dominoes. In addition, visitors can learn about careers in the cultural sector. 

The Museum on Wheels' next destination is East New York, on the 16th of August. The full schedule is here:

A Big Day For Record Collectors

The unofficial start of the shopping season is Black Friday--the day after Thanksgiving. This year, it falls on the 29th of November. With that in mind, those looking for music have lots of choices at  Record Store Day Black Friday . For the first time on vinyl, for instance,  Dark Horse Records  reissues  Leon Russell 's 1995  Hymns of Christmas . The instrumental album features orchestral arrangements and Leon's piano playing. Among the ten tracks are  Silent Night  and  Joy To The World . Another offering is  The Doors: Live in Detroit , from their May 8, 1970 performance at the  Cobo Arena . It's the first time the set is available on 4-LP vinyl. Part of the band's  Roadhouse Blues  tour, it was one of their longer shows. Jackson Pollock Book And Exhibit

 In February  2025,   Jackson Pollock: The Early Years (1912-1956)  will be published.  The book has a few authors, one being  Helen Harrison , who was director of the  Jackson-Krasner House and Study   Center  in East Hampton, New York, for over three decades.  According to bookseller  Rizzoli , readers will gain insight into Pollock's psyche and have an opportunity to explore his influences, such as  Pablo Picasso,  Mexican muralists and Native American artists.  This volume is to accompany an exhibition, to run from the 15th of October until January 19, 2025, at a museum in Paris, France. The  Musee Picasso Paris  show is to be called  Jackson Pollock: The Early Years (1934-1947) .
