Art From The Playboy Archive
Julien's is pleased to present Fine Art From The Playboy Archive Part II on the 26th of August. This follows the success of Part I in 2024.
Besides some of Hugh Hefner's own items (such as his custom-made silk pajamas and captain's hat), people have 300 works of art from the Playboy magazine archives to bid on, ranging from LeRoy Neiman drawings to a Keith Haring ceramic plate. The lots even include a Mr. Magoo illustration!
Also being sold are quite a few reproductions of the Playboy bunny logo, such as sculptures from Richard Hunt and Ed Paschke.
And a couple artists have created Hugh Hefner portraits. Bill Mack's piece incorporates the 'H' from the original Hollywood sign. It was painted to celebrate the restoration of the sign in 1978 (which Hugh helped raise funds for).
Another that's worth checking out is Jason Mecier's collage. Jason told the Art and Music Guide that Crystal Hefner commissioned him to do the picture. It was for her husband's 80th birthday, and ''she mailed me a bunch of his junk to make a portrait of. That's what I enjoy most is when celebrities give me their junk for a portrait.''
