Underground Art
It's unusual to see a chandelier underground--unless you're using the Moscow Metro.
This is one of 22 subway systems featured in Transit Tourism by David Seltzer.
The writer, who focuses on art and design, admits to being particularly fond of London. He appreciates the ''vibrant'' Moquette seat covers on the trains, and considers the roundel logo to be iconic.
In Beijing, David noticed an art installation featuring badges and other mementos, contributed by locals. And Stockholm's Kungstradgarden or ''King's Garden'' is a must-see, as it resembles archaeological excavation site . . . in homage to the palace (Makalos) and French garden which once stood here.
David is from Philadelphia, which is also featured in the book. He used to work as a financial advisor and raise capital for transportation agencies. But he thinks his fascination with trains goes back to his childhood, when he could hear them from his bedroom window.
