A Celebration For An Advertising Mascot
It will soon be the Pillsbury Doughboy's 60th birthday. This takes place on the 7th of November.
Corporate Archivist Natasha Bruns told the Art and Music Guide that he's stayed pretty consistent over time. Last year, however, there were some slight changes.
Poppin' Fresh--to use his official name--got thinner, longer legs, and his eyes now have more definition. In addition, the color of his tie changed, from white to blue.
The concept for the doughboy came from Rudolph Perz, then the creative director at the Leo Burnett ad agency in Chicago. Perz envisioned him popping out of a can of refrigerated biscuit dough.
In 1988, a Pillsbury doughboy cookie jar was created. It just made a limited return, and has already sold out. But fans can also celebrate by visiting the character's home for the first time:
