Museum Heist Aftermath

Ticket prices for the Louvre in Paris will soar by 45% for most non-European Union visitors next year. That includes tourists from the United States, United Kingdom, and China, according to the BBC, and goes into effect on January 14.

Nationals from Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein, countries which signed up to the European Economic Area Agreement, will be exempted.

The reason for the price hike is because the museum was criticized after a brazen jewelry heist in October. And indeed, an audit revealed that an overhaul was needed. Both the inadequate security and aging infrastructure have come under fire.

While the items, worth $102 million, have yet to be recovered, it is believed that all of the robbery suspects have been arrested. At any rate, they have inspired a gingerbread creation in Stockholm, Sweden.
