Behind The Scenes With a Former L.A. Club Manager
A book from Stonehouse Press recently topped Amazon's list of Hot New Releases.
Jason ''JD'' DeCosta's Backstage Pass is set in the 90s and 2000s, when the writer helped run several west coast venues. Much of the book is devoted to the Roxy, and it's no wonder.
The Roxy was where Mike Tyson joined Snoop Dogg onstage; Brian Wilson, his daughters Carnie and Wendy, and Al Jardine held a Carl Wilson Foundation benefit concert; and Sheila E. hosted her after-hours birthday party, featuring special guest star Prince. The club was also selected for the Sex Pistols' reunion and warm-up for a UK tour, as well as Amy Winehouse's first appearance in America.
The latter impressed DeCosta. He was surprised at how good she was. He didn't think Amy would be able to perform, having noticed the amount of Jack Daniels she drank.
While JD enjoyed meeting the stars, he sometimes had to endure celebrity meltdowns. That was the case with Adele, Courtney Love, Chris Robinson and Adam Levine.
JD himself was a musician, and has been sad to learn of so many passings. They included bandmates and Roxy co-workers as well as better known acts.
There's now an opportunity to win a copy of Backstage Pass at
