Holiday Designs in Bay Ridge

A homeowner in Brooklyn, New York, doesn't just decorate for Christmas.

Roy Jensen celebrates multiple holidays. So his latest display--in honor of Valentine's Day--consists of pink lights, hearts, and Betty Boop figurines.

The Bay Ridge resident is assisted by his daughters. When he bought the property in 1989, he started out with a simple red bow on a tree. 

Over the years, the decorations have grown more elaborate. For one Halloween, Roy embellished his front door with handmade silicone masks from a movie prop company and at night, brought out smoke machines . . . and he estimates, as much as 250 pounds of candy for trick-or-treaters!

Hippie Fest  is a music and arts festival for all ages. While not the same everywhere, attendees can generally expect to see bohemian vendor booths, tribute bands, drum circles, tie-dye activities, and a vintage car show.   The latter is to open all vehicles which fit the hippie theme. Categories include Most Artistic, Grooviest Paint Job, Best Photo-Op, and Most Psychedelic. The next festival will be held in Tipton, Indiana, on September 27 and 28. The  Seth Brown Duo  (Seth and his wife, Desiree) will be among the entertainers. Glowing in San Francisco

Let's Glow  is America's largest projection event, and the San Francisco iteration will feature 19 artists from around the globe. One is  Jacob Stephens , who turns the buildings into gingerbread houses with his projections. It's meant to create a sense of warmth. On the other hand, quite a few of the participants have been inspired by winter, so will offer frosty illusions. There are even half a dozen interactive icebergs which play music. Another attraction is called  Electric Dandelions . These giant steel and acrylic sculptures look like flowers during the day. However, as the sun sets, they transform into an ever-changing fireworks display. The shows, from 5:30-10:00 p.m., run from December 5-14.  Visit  LET’S GLOW SF   for details.

40 Years On

Slash  is best known for his  Guns N' Roses  contributions. Yet he nearly wound up with  Poison . After a successful audition, he was called back twice. But  CC DeVille  got the job because of his high hairdo and heels. That's according to  Martin Popoff 's celebration of the Gunners' 40th anniversary.  Another interesting part of  Guns N Roses at 40  concerns  Arnold   Schwarzeneg ger .  You Could Be Mine  was used in  Terminator 2:   Judgment Day  after Arnold invited the band over for dinner to ''seal the deal.''  It is surprising that  Stephanie Seymour  isn't mentioned once.
