The Sounds of Sin City

The Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas has a new production.

Ikons of Rock is a salute to names like Van Halen, Rob Zombie, Lita Ford, Pat Benatar, Kiss, and Queen. As many as 50 artists will be represented during the year-long residency. 

Formed in Canada, the players have gone on to share the stage with notables ranging from Ratt to Rick Springfield. 

Those who prefer the real deal have a slew of options. Caesars Palace headliners include Jennifer Lopez, Rod Stewart, Def Leppard, Cyndi Lauper, and Dolly Parton.

Sphere is another popular Vegas venue, and returning performers include the Eagles and Backstreet Boys.

Perhaps Sin City could also be called 'Sound City''!

Hippie Fest  is a music and arts festival for all ages. While not the same everywhere, attendees can generally expect to see bohemian vendor booths, tribute bands, drum circles, tie-dye activities, and a vintage car show.   The latter is to open all vehicles which fit the hippie theme. Categories include Most Artistic, Grooviest Paint Job, Best Photo-Op, and Most Psychedelic. The next festival will be held in Tipton, Indiana, on September 27 and 28. The  Seth Brown Duo  (Seth and his wife, Desiree) will be among the entertainers. ''A Life in Art''

  A late actor's possessions--including his own still life of a Japanese vase with fruit and a rose--will soon be auctioned off by  Bonhams . Gene Hackman  also collected art, so pieces by  Auguste Rodin ,  Wassily Kandisky, Richard Diebenkorn , and  Robert Motherwell  will be sold.  Other lots in  The Gene Hackman Collection: A Life in Art   will consist of  Golden Globe  awards, scripts. cinematic memorabilia, and a couple of watches. While the art is expected to fetch big bucks, a dartboard from the 95-year-old's game room isn't likely to go for more than $100-$150.  The auction will be held in three parts. The first, live from New York, will be on November 19. A Preview of ''Granny Takes A Trip''

When  Gram Parsons  is mentioned, his  Nudie Cohn  outfits often come to mind. The singer also loved the western-style outfits at a London shop, even going so far as sleeping there.  While based on Cohn's ideas, these versions boasted a Savile Row flavor and velvet collars.  Another patron was  Keith Moon , who refused to be rushed while selecting clothes to wear that evening. Besides spending five hours here, he tried to pay with half of a credit card! Keith had used the credit card to unlock the door to his apartment, but half of it got stuck. The store visited by Gram and Keith was  Granny-Takes-A-Trip , also the title of  Paul Gorman 's upcoming book  (available on the 25th of September).
