''The Man With The Golden Ear''

The Art And Music Guide was sorry to learn about the passing of Clive Davis.

The record executive and producer, known for his ''golden ear,'' was 94 years old. 

Clive was with Columbia Records before he started Arista. This was where he signed up acts like Aretha Franklin, Barry Manilow, and Patti Smith. 

In 2000, he founded J Records, credited with the success of Alicia Keys and Maroon 5.

Clive, who also worked with Janis Joplin, Carlos Santana and Aerosmith, hosted an annual Grammy Week bash which Variety called ''the music business' most coveted social ducat.''

Hippie Fest

Hippie Fest  is a music and arts festival for all ages. While not the same everywhere, attendees can generally expect to see bohemian vendor booths, tribute bands, drum circles, tie-dye activities, and a vintage car show.   The latter is to open all vehicles which fit the hippie theme. Categories include Most Artistic, Grooviest Paint Job, Best Photo-Op, and Most Psychedelic. The next festival will be held in Tipton, Indiana, on September 27 and 28. The  Seth Brown Duo  (Seth and his wife, Desiree) will be among the entertainers. Their specialty is ''country roots,'' a blend of folk, rock, and country music,and they perform original material along with some covers.  Desiree told the  Guide  this will be their first  Hippie Fest , and thinks both their attire and set list are ''very seventies.''  Another  Hippie Fest  follows in Salisbury, North Carolina, on October 25 and 26. 40 Years On

Slash  is best known for his  Guns N' Roses  contributions. Yet he nearly wound up with  Poison . After a successful audition, he was called back twice. But  CC DeVille  got the job because of his high hairdo and heels. That's according to  Martin Popoff 's celebration of the Gunners' 40th anniversary.  Another interesting part of  Guns N Roses at 40  concerns  Arnold   Schwarzeneg ger .  You Could Be Mine  was used in  Terminator 2:   Judgment Day  after Arnold invited the band over for dinner to ''seal the deal.''  It is surprising that  Stephanie Seymour  isn't mentioned once.
