Young Artists Inspired By Groundhog Day
Groundhog Day is just around the corner. To celebrate, the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce invited high school art students in their Pennsylvania community to decorate storefront windows. Christina Young , advisor for the Punxsutwawey Area High School Art Department (grades 9-12), shared more details with the Art And Music Guide . . . . AAMG: What sort of designs did the students create and how long did it take? CY: We got permission from principals to spend a school day painting the windows. We ended up with working with 12 local businesses. We took photographs of store fronts and researched Groundhog Day artwork possibilities. Some even decided to include something about the business in their artwork. For example, B's Books has a groundhog sleeping on a pile of books while another groundhog is shown reading a book.
