Music Veterans Announce Concert Changes

The  Rolling Stones  have scrapped plans for a 2026 stadium tour across the UK and Europe. No dates had been officially announced. One reason, according to  Variety , is that  Keith Richards  doesn't feel like he can commit to the rigors of another tour. The guitarist, who just turned 82, admits that his playing has changed, due to his arthritis. The band is likely to release a new album next year, though. And an unnamed spokesperson claims they will get back onstage ''when they're good and ready.'' Another 82-year-old is rescheduling his January shows to undergo surgery.  Barry Manilow  revealed in a  statement  via  Instagram  that he has lung cancer.  The spot was caught early, and apparently hasn't spread. So Barry won't need chemo or radiation therapy. ''Just chicken soup and  I Love Lucy  reruns,'' he quipped.

''Vacancy to Vibrancy''

Artists in Long Beach, California, will soon revitalize empty downtown storefronts. It's part of a new program, led by the  Department of Economic Development & Opportunity .    The creatives are invited to apply via the  Vacancy-to-Vibrancy   website. The deadline is the 15th of January. This is also where property owners can apply for free vinyl window wraps with designs inspired by the area's neighborhoods, culture, and history.  Preference will be given to long-term vacancies along key commercial corridors. The goal is to attract new tenants [the art will be removed once the property is leased] and deter vandalism.

New Seuss Book Coming Next Year

A new  Dr. Seuss  book will be published on the second of June. While the late illustrator's archival work will be featured, the main player is  Tom Brannon . Tom, who created Seuss-style drawings, has been a children's book author for over three decades.  This new endeavor is called  Sing the 50 United States!   It began when editors from  Random House Children's Books  visited San Diego's  Geisel Library  ( Theodor Geisel  being the real name of the late artist). They hoped to find a manuscript they could connect with America's upcoming 250th birthday. And they did: a  Cat   in the Hat  cover sketch and notes on art direction for a project aimed at helping young readers learn the names of all 50 states. In addition,  Dr. Seuss Enterprises  is to release a special music video for the  Dr. Seuss YouTube  channel.

Art And History of The Photo Booth

There's a new museum and gallery devoted to the old technology of analog photo booths.  Autophoto, which is located at 121 Orchard Street in New York City, has half a dozen operational booths. The cost is $8 for black and white; $12 for color. Admission is free, though.  They even host the Sure Thing Chapel , where couples can book Vegas-style ceremonies. Visitors can also check out an archival collection starting with inventor Anatol Josepho . l And on view through the end of December are celebrity photo strips featuring names ranging from Britney Spears to J ackie Chan .  Incidentally, the photo booth is now a hundred years old. Historians believe there are only two hundred working analog booths left in the world. For more, visit  https://www.instagram.com/ autophoto/?hl=en .

Behind The Scenes With a Former L.A. Club Manager

A book from  Stonehouse Press  recently topped  Amazon 's list of  Hot   New Releases . Jason ''JD'' DeCosta 's  Backstage Pass  is set in the 90s and 2000s, when the writer helped run several west coast venues. Much of the book is devoted to the  Roxy , and it's no wonder. The  Roxy  was where  Mike Tyson  joined  Snoop Dogg  onstage;  Brian Wilson , his daughters  Carnie  and  Wendy , and  Al Jardine  held a  Carl Wilson Foundation  benefit concert; and  Sheila E.  hosted her after-hours birthday party, featuring special guest star  Prince . The club was also selected for the  Sex Pistols ' reunion and warm-up for a UK tour, as well as  Amy Winehouse 's first appearance in America. The latter impressed DeCosta. He was surprised at how good she was. He didn't think Amy would be able to perform, having noticed the amount of   Jack Daniels  she ...

Night People in New York

Mark Ronson  is a producer, songwriter, and disc jockey who has worked with  Bruno Mars, Adele, Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa , and  Lady Gaga .  He was interested in music from the get-go, thanks in part to his stepfather who taught him some studio techniques. That was  Foreigner 's  Mick Jones . And one of his best friends was  Sean   Lennon . So it's no surprise to see plenty of other boldface names in Mark's memoir,  Night People: How to be a DJ in '90s New York City.  They include clubgoers ranging from  Jay-Z  to  Martha Stewart .  And the 50-year-old shares stories about the establishments themselves. One was the  Limelight , a church turned nightclub, owned by  Peter   Gatien . But he got one of his first jobs from his neighbor  Amanda --Peter's daughter who threw parties at another Gatien hot spot called  Club USA .  The author admits it wasn't all fun and games. He was afraid ...
